Today I listened an audio clip on the 09. December 2008 where Lucy Bernholz the president of Blue Print and Design talked about Micro and trends to keep donations alive.
According to Bernholz is small really big 2008. She explained that the word Micro can be used for a lot of good ideas to make them small, for instance microconsignment, micro giving, micro philantropy...
I found one point really interesting, mobile giving.
Bernholz spoke about this quite new way of giving to charity. You can send a little donation of 5 Dollar easy and quick on the way you want.
I can only supporting this concept because in times of financial crisis is it not easy to donate and "Micro" is a wonderful opportunity to keep giving without adding to your own financial burden. Everyone can do mobile giving and the really big advantage is that it takes your time only for one SMS.

Helleo, everyone. This is Ryo. Mobile giving sounds a good idea for me. As Carina mentions in her blog, the last year's global economic crisis made people away from donations, charity, and philanthoropic activities. If we use the mobile giving and donate small amount of donation, we will be able to keep helping a lot of poor people around the world. We don't feel heavy burden in terms of finance. Most importantly, it is a most suitable way for student to donate small amount of money. My question is: Is "the world Micro" related to the activities of "Micro Credit" we learned in Oral Skill class?
ReplyDeleteHello Carina, I listened to the broadcast, that is a bright idea. there are a lot of good people in the world who are thinking about finding a way to raise money to help poor people. you know what, it is kind of discouraging when you have to go through a long process to give a donation, 'cause you know some people are lack patience, but if you are able to give a donation through your cellphone, for some people, they will find it much easier, right? I really appreciate that. Good job!
ReplyDeleteFor Ryo: I do think that the "micro" in micro-giving is a similar concept to "microcredit". The key is in the "micro" part and that giving or loaning on a smaller scale is more effective than large scale.
